Three grassroots community organizations announce endorsement in Brooklyn’s 55th Assembly District after member-led process to identify Assembly candidates for progressive change

August 14, 2014 (Brooklyn, NY) – Citizen Action of New York, Community Voices Heard Power and VOCAL-NY Action Fund announced today the endorsement of Lori Boozer in the Democratic Primary for the 55th Assembly District in Brooklyn.

Endorsements were based on responses to a questionnaire and interviews held by community leaders. Candidates were asked to provide positions on a range of issues including, economic justice & jobs, education, health, housing, immigrant rights, and public safety & policing. They were then evaluated on their knowledge of these issues, and the strength of their past commitments as well as their future visions to advance each issue area.

The endorsement of Lori Boozer is a reflection of her progressive vision and the shared values between the endorsing organizations and her campaign.

“It’s an honor to stand with these true community leaders who have worked for so many years on the issues that I care about,” said Lori Boozer. “For far too long, this district has been held down by backroom politics and self-serving politicians but with this campaign and great allies like Citizen Action, Community Voices Heard Power and VOCAL-NY Action Fund, we’re going to rise up and demand real change for Brooklyn’s working families.”

“Citizen Action is proud to join with our progressive allies and partners to endorse Lori Boozer for State Assembly. Lori has demonstrated a strong commitment to fighting for equality and justice, and standing up for those in need. We are excited to see her take this fight to the next level. We look forward to working with Lori both in Albany and here in NYC to raise wages, fund our schools, fight for affordable housing and pass fair elections,” said Therese Revesz, Citizen Action NYC Board Chair.

“Lori is like a breath of fresh air in this jaded world of politics,” said Ketny Jean-Francois, CVH Power Board Member. She not only talks the talk; she has walked the walk. She is knowledgeable and determined to do the work necessary to make change in her district because she has and continues to live the struggles of her community. She is what District 55 needs.”

“Lori Boozer is a proven social justice fighter with the smarts and political savvy to bring much needed progressive change to Albany,” said Reginald Brown, VOCAL-NY Action Fund member and AD-55 resident. “Central Brooklyn needs more affordable housing, better access to health care, and expanded economic opportunities – and Lori is the best candidate to get the job done. VOCAL-NY Action Fund enthusiastically endorses her campaign and we look forward to working together to uplift low-income communities across New York.”
